Pain Management

Pain is a very complex thing. Everyone experiences it differently and you can’t see it on a scan. Our understanding of pain, however, is increasing with recent research.

As physiotherapists, we come across people in pain almost all day, every day. A lot of the time, it is not as much the pain that is the concern for our clients but more the affect that pain has on your life. This may range from an inability to play soccer on the weekend, to getting a good nights sleep or being unable to pick up your young child. We are not just treating a knee or lower back but looking at how this problem affects a person.

In people with persistent pain, we see a common pattern:

Person in pain - fear of making things worse -misses out on things they enjoy eg socialising, work, exercise - affects mood - mood increases pain.
