Remedial Massage & Cupping Therapy

My name is Candice Smart, and I am the Remedial Massage Therapist at Smartmoves .

As a remedial massage therapist, my role is to work closely with clients to identify their individual pain points and apply massage techniques that will best support their recovery. I utilise a variety of techniques—such as deep tissue, trigger point therapy, sports massage, and cupping therapy—to loosen tight muscles, soothe soreness, and increase blood flow throughout the body.

I am trained to focus on the specific areas of the body that require the most attention, ensuring a tailored approach that suits your unique needs. From sports enthusiasts to those who suffer from chronic pain, I have seen how massage therapy can make a significant impact on people’s lives, and this is something I am truly passionate about.

I am proud to offer remedial massage and cupping therapy as part of the excellent services available at Smartmoves. Whether you are seeking pain relief, relaxation, improved circulation, or overall stress reduction, remedial massage may be able to help. I am committed to delivering the best possible care to my clients, and I am always happy to answer any questions you may have about the benefits of my treatments.

At SmartMoves we understand the importance of taking care of your body. That’s why we offer remedial massage services that target the source of your pain and discomfort. One of the most notable benefits of remedial massage is its ability to reduce stress and increase relaxation. When we’re stressed, our bodies tense up leading to increased muscle soreness. Regular massage therapy helps to loosen up these tense areas and keep them relaxed.

Massage can have the following benefits:

  • Reducing stress and increasing relaxation.

  • Reducing pain, muscle soreness, and tension.

  • Improving circulation, energy, and alertness.

  • Lowering heart rate and blood pressure.

  • Improving immune function.

It may also help with:

  • Anxiety

  • Digestive disorders

  • Fibromyalgia

  • Headaches

  • Insomnia related to stress

  • Low back pain

  • Myofascial pain syndrome

  • Nerve pain

  • Soft tissue strains or injuries

  • Sports injuries

  • Temporomandibular joint pain

  • Upper back and neck pain

  • Lymphoedema

Beyond the benefits for specific conditions or diseases, some people choose massage for pure enjoyment. The relaxation effect of massage on muscles can reduce feelings of tension and promote a sense of well-being. With its gentle yet effective techniques, remedial massage can enhance your physical, mental, and emotional resilience. It can improve your quality of life, enhance your ability to manage stress, and support better sleep.

Cupping

Cupping is a traditional therapy that involves placing cups on the skin to create suction. The practice dates back thousands of years and is found in many cultures around the world.

Cups are placed on the skin, and a vacuum is created either by heating the air inside the cup or by using a mechanical pump. This suction pulls the skin and underlying tissue into the cup.

  • Purpose: The suction is believed to increase blood flow to the treated area, promoting healing and relieving pain. It is also thought to help relax muscles and stimulate the flow of energy (Qi) in traditional Chinese medicine.

  • Effects and Benefits:

    • Increased Blood Flow: Cupping is thought to stimulate blood flow to the treated area, promoting oxygenation and nutrient delivery to the tissues.

    • Muscle Relaxation: The suction and release of the cups may help relax muscles and alleviate tension.

    • Pain Relief: Some people use cupping as a complementary therapy for pain relief, particularly for conditions such as musculoskeletal pain.

  • Precautions:

    • Cupping should be performed by trained professionals to avoid complications.

    • It may cause temporary discolouration and bruising on the skin, known as cupping marks, which usually fade within a few days.
